How did the people who made that meticulously re-created Up house avoid a lawsuit from the famously litigious Disney? The same way anyone avoids anything: friends in high places. Pete Docter, one of the directors of Up, “personally intervened” after seeing the elaborate blueprints for the home, according to the New York Times. And the house’s creator, Brian Bangerter (who runs a custom home design firm), is the son of a former Utah governor, which led to more connections. Brian knew a lobbyist who knew a Disney lawyer, and the rest is real-estate-development history.
