When 30 Minutes or Less opens Friday, it will mark the beginning of the end of the Summer of Raunch Comedy. The heist flick with a comedy-dork lineup is the seventh of nine R-rated comedies to hit the multiplex this summer (Our Idiot Brother, R-rated, but really not that raunchy, and A Good Old Fashioned Orgy are still to come), in what has been a revival of the form. So far this summer, six R-rated comedies have grossed a total of $1.22 billion, more than all the season’s superhero movies ($1.21 billion) and that movie about kids with wands ($1.14 billion). hile The Hangover, Part 2 stands out as the clear winner at the box office ($580 million), the question remains: Which raunchy summer comedy was the raunchiest? To determine that we’ve compiled data from the Dove Foundation, a family-friendly organization that provides movies reviews with an eye toward the tawdry (Dove rates every movie from 1 through 5 in six categories — sex, language, violence, drugs, nudity, other — and gives each film its stamp of approval or, much more commonly, no stamp at all) and our own evaluations. The winner probably won’t surprise you: If you disagree, shout it out in the comments.

Rated R for: “sexual content and language.” Dove score: 19 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 2, Drugs 3, Nudity 3, Other 2) Why?: “a misunderstanding with a gay man;” “a character jokes about ripping a man’s ears off and then stapling them to his neck;” “a character jokes he has heroin hidden in his rear;” “woman’s bra is seen;” “a reference to going to the bathroom.” Faint praise: “There are a couple of laughs along the way but” Most disturbing part: The idea that someone who looks like MIla Kunis would date someone who looks like Andy Samberg. But was it funny?: Sorta, especially if you’re into watching two gorgeous, quick-witted people have sex and crack wise. Overall Raunch: If people openly cursing and having sex counts as raunch, well, then maybe this is raunchy. But in a season of such steep competition, it takes more than Justin Timberlake’s bare ass to disgust.
Rated R for: “strong sexuality and language throughout.” Dove score: 17 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 2, Drugs 2, Nudity 2, Other 2) Why?: “the same woman has sex with two different men in the film;” “about every profanity one could think of;” “a woman bites another woman in the rear;” “a woman’s crack is seen;” “two married women get drunk and share a kiss.” Faint praise: “When she starts dancing on a line to convince the officer she is not drunk…well, it is pretty funny.” Most disturbing part: Melissa McCarthy mounting the sink in a posh wedding dress store and promptly filling it with rejected bits of rancid Brazilian food. But was it funny?: Yes! Bridesmaids managed to combine filth with heart, while showing that women can be gross too, even if Judd Apatow has to force them to do it. Overall Raunch: Bridesmaids has something disgusting for everyone. There’s pooping and barfing to offend the squeamish, a montage of sexual positions to offend the prudes, and love to offend the men. For being an equal opportunity offender, it scores high on the raunch-o-meter. Photo: Suzanne Hanover/2011 Universal Pictures
Rated R for: “crude and sexual content, pervasive language, nudity and some violence.” Dove says: We’re not sure yet since they don’t release their reviews until after opening weekend. Given the MPAA’s description and all the fucks, violence and pizza in the trailer, it’s a safe bet that Dove will recommend you see rent Mars Needs Moms instead. Most disturbing part: Danny McBride with a normal haircut. But was it funny? In a throwaway, you won’t even remember it tomorrow way, sure. Especially if you like cursing, bromances and Aziz Ansari’s ability to speak in pop cultural references. Overall raunch: Vulgar? Yes. Mean? Without a doubt. But raunchy? Not so sure. When blow job jokes and Danny McBride’s sewage pipe mouth are the nastiest things going for a movie, it looks family-friendly next to the Hangover’s of the world.
Rated R for: “crude and sexual content, pervasive language and some drug material.” Dove score: 19 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 2, Drugs 4, Nudity 2, Other 2) Why?: “a woman swats a man’s rear;” “well over one hundred uses of strong language;” “a man dreams he tackles his boss and throws him out a window and he lands hard on a parked car;” “unlit cigar seen;” “a few characters are seen urinating.” Faint praise: “There are a few laughs and likable actors…but” Most disturbing part: Colin Farrell with a beer belly and comb over. But was it funny?: Funny enough, but once you’ve heard one prison rape/Indian call center/black people are scary joke, you’ve heard them all. Overall Raunch: The things that disgust the reviewer over at the Dove foundation (drug use, cursing and women in bras) won’t bother most people, but something they don’t mention (the massive amount of rape jokes) just might. In the end though, this movie is no raunchier than a beer commercial. Photo: John P. Johnson/? 2011 New Line Productions, Inc.
Rated R for: “sexual content, nudity, language and some drug use.” Dove score: 20 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 1, Drugs 4, Nudity 3, Other 3) Why?: “condoms are mentioned;” “‘Idiot’-1; ‘Moron’-1 [Note: They’re indicating the number of times those words were used];” “champagne is consumed;” “a woman’s breasts are examined;” “a few characters lie;” “flatulence.” Faint praise: “As far as humor, there are a few good moments.’” Most disturbing part: The mere suggestion that LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan. But was it funny?: Sure. Cameron Diaz is fantastic as a worn-down teacher who cares more about her boobs than her students. As long as that doesn’t make you sad, it’ll probably make you laugh. Overall Raunch: One of the few summer comedies that actually includes nudity, Bad Teacher reaches it’s height of raunch in
Rated R for: “pervasive strong crude sexual content and language, some graphic nudity and drug use.” Dove score: 20 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 2, Drugs 4, Nudity 3, Other 2) Why?: “two men are told to kiss during filming a soft porn movie and they do;” “a character races a Go-Kart and bangs into other drivers; “a drinking song, ‘Brass Monkey,’ is played to introduce a character;” “a very pregnant woman’s belly is seen;” “the temptation to cheat on a spouse is shown.” Faint praise: “What is one of the film’s better moments is the scene in which a certain character has the opportunity to go to bed with his friend’s wife and realizes he can’t break his wedding vows to his own wife. That is a nice touch” Most disturbing part: The lack of respect for public urination laws and general hygiene shown in the scene that allows Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds to switch bodies. But was it funny?: Eh, the concept is as tired as all the dick, poop and pee jokes that carry this movie. Unless you love dick, poop and pee jokes. Overall Raunch: When there’s one scene in a movie that includes poop entering someone’s mouth, the rest could be Bambi and the raunchiness would be off the charts. But when the rest of the movie is actually just piss, poop and dick discussions, you’ve got a movie that will at one point or another disgust anyone who’s not 12.
Rated R for: “pervasive language, strong sexual content including graphic nudity, drug use and brief violent images.” Dove score: 22 (Sex 4, Language 5, Violence 2, Drugs 5, Nudity 4, Other 2) Why?: “biblical profanity;” “a man falls hard on a glass table and break it;” “a vehicle chase;” “a monkey smokes;” “disrespectful attitudes toward police;” “a thrown object hits a man;” “character spits in another character’s face.” Faint praise: “Well, the Thailand scenery is nice.” Most disturbing part: The three or four seconds of internal monologue (“Is that really his penis? Of course it’s not. Right?”) that follow the first viewing of Ken Jeong’s microdong. But was it funny?: Take the first movie, replace the upbeat parts with cruel darkness, then take out most of the jokes. And yet, The Hangover Part II still has its moments. Overall Raunch: There aren’t many things we agree with the the Dove Foundation on, but this movie being the raunchiest of the summer is one of them. The severed fingers, the fondling of a micropenis, the glimpses of many tranny penises, the dead pig guts and the lewd acts performed with ping pong balls make the rest of the summer’s R-rated fare look like Disney Channel Originals.
