Goon Trailer: Ice, Ice, Maybe

Bad hair, bad teeth, icy environs — someday, the Coen brothers better make a hockey movie. Until then, America (and Canada) will have to settle for Goon, which is kind of like Slap Shot but without any of the economic themes. Seann William Scott stars as Doug, a hockey player way better known for his punches than his actual skills, and a terribly mustachioed Liev Schreiber plays his imposing rival. The movie’s based on the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, but that loosey-goosey dialogue and constant teasing (not to mention strictly sexualized female characters) come from Judd Apatow alums Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, who adapted the screenplay. The silly aesthetic has a Dodgeball vibe, but lines like “you’re like the Hebrew Dolph Lundrgen” seem almost promising.
