We were a little surprised by the news that they’re remaking Flatliners. And the Beetlejuice sequel/reboot? Didn’t see that coming. But today’s news that the 1991 Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze surf actioner Point Break is getting a remake … well, we’re not psyched about it, but we figured this would happen sooner or later, and it may happen sooner, since Alcon Entertainment already has a fast-tracked script from Kurt Wimmer that will go out to directors soon. There’s a pretty significant change from the Kathryn Bigelow-directed original, too: According to the Alcon synopsis, “the new version is set in the world of international extreme sports.” Yup, your new Point Break might eschew surfing for a new focus on, like, snowboarding and BMX bike-riding in France and Istanbul or something. Let’s keep all this from poor Keanu – dude’s a little bit sad already.
