For their next act of gimmickry, the Flaming Lips will record a six-hour song, to be called “Found a Star on the Ground.” The band is also offering fans the opportunity to pay $100 to have their name included somewhere in the lyrics. The best part of all this is that neither party has to feel silly about their respective acts of self-indulgence (just in case that was a possibility), because the money generated by the project will be donated to the Humane Society and a music program at the University of Central Oklahoma. A quick search of the Flaming Lips lyrics database in our head doesn’t turn up any names that aren’t “Yoshimi,” so this could very well be your only chance to feel as if Wayne Coyne is speaking directly to you (when you are sober).
