Dan Harmon knows his audience. The Community creator and showrunner says that most people “don’t regard the television as an appliance that’s supposed to spiritually satisfy them,” which is why the wonderful but ratings-deficient Community has trouble finding viewers. “It’s not because [audiences are] stupid, it’s because that’s what TV has given them all their lives and it’s hard to go out and do the work of finding a show.” Once you do the work, though, Dan Harmon and his cast have a special treat for you. “I … do try many times a season to put Alison [Brie] in a situation, wardrobe-wise, that I know is going to end up as an animated GIF file,” he says.
