Maura Tierney’s guest spot as James Spader’s wife on The Office airs on Thursday, and based on this advance clip, it looks like Robert doesn’t wield the power in the California household. His usual detached and creepily calm energy contributes to his air of mystery — particularly because his fellow Dunder Mifflinites are prone to bouts of high-strung mania — so it’s nice to see Spader play panicky and mix up the comic energies that have defined the season so far. Plus, hey, Maura Tierney, complete with a slyly matching outfit! (Everyone looks good in a smart black suit and teal.)
