Remember when Ticketmaster started that cozy little blog to explain all the ways they weren’t ripping you off? Here’s a funny addendum to that: Now the one-stop hub for exorbitant Justin Bieber tickets is being forced to refund customers who used Ticketmaster between October 21, 1999 and October 19, 2011. Formerly broke eventgoers can look forward to a $1.50-per-ticket refund on up to seventeen orders placed within that time period. The reason? “They profited off of ‘processing fees’ without declaring as much,” Business Insider reports. We knew those fees were wack.
The refund comes as the result of a class action settlement begun in 2003. Going forward, Ticketmaster will still be able to earn money off the fees, just as long as they’re transparent about it. But that’s not the end of the Ticketmaster feel-good moment: If less than $11.25 million is annually redeemed by former customers in the four-year redemption period, Ticketmaster will give the rest to charity. Aww!
As of now, refund credits are set for the spring of 2012.
