Get Your ‘Atonement’ Absinthe at Grub Street

Inspired by the Carlyle hotel's Oscar-themed menu, our pals over at Grub Street have come up with companion drinks for every Best Picture nominee. There's the de rigueur There Will Be Blood milkshake, of course, but our favorite is the absinthe-based Staggerac, inspired by Keira Knightley's green dress in Atonement.

The Spiegeltent at South Street Seaport's 2007 season officially kicked off this week, and the lineup for this year's Euro-style cabaret — Ute Lemper, Absinthe, Jose Gonzalez, the Shout Out Louds — is sure to bring out the spectacle-loving masses. Our cohorts over at Grub Street have the full scoop on the Spiegeltent's other main draw: the mouthwatering seasonal menu at the temporary venue's Green Room.

Vulture will be doing its part by bringing you video footage of Spiegeltent happenings all summer long. Stay tuned!

Food, Film, Fun!

As our friends over at Grub Street pointed out last month, the Film Food Festival at Harry's Water Taxi Beach kicks off this evening. To whet your appetite, here's the trailer for one of the festival's main-event films, Buffet: All You Can Eat Las Vegas, a documentary that chronicles the gluttony habits of those who regularly frequent the calorie-packed smorgasbords. Filmmaker Natasha Schull would like you to know that the pigs shown in the trailer "aren't some heavy-handed metaphor for the people depicted in the film" — they're actually featured in the movie, quite happily doing their parts to eat the buffet dregs left over once the paying customers have had their fill. —Sara Cardace

Rock Stars Dish It Out

Breakfast: It's not just for beer anymore. According to I Like Food, Food Tastes Good: In the Kitchen With Your Favorite Bands — a new cookbook that collects recipes from musicians — rock stars have been eating actual food for the day's first meal. (The Hold Steady are partial to sausages.) Today, our friends at Grub Street investigate New York bands' favorite courses. (Though you can still wash them all down with Nada Surf's mojitos.)
