Snacking on the Runway
Talk about a fresh face in fashion. Not every model approached the six-foot mark at artist-designer Elisa Jimenez's unconventional presentation at Mixed Greens gallery on Sunday. After tango dancers kicked off the event with dips and twirls and Jimenez herself displayed a backside-baring dress, Sokhma Heathyre Mabin carried her 17-month-old son, Kayenn Vancayseele Mabin, down the runway breast-feeding him as she walked. The pair had planned their coordinating gold outfits of Ingeo fiber, and the toddler looked a bit like Bamm-Bamm Rubble in his draped top and diaper. But the mid-show snack was spontaneous. "He started to cry," explained Mother Mabin, who used to help the free-spirited designer with sewing. "It actually works out because it's Hunger Week. Keep feeding."
