Why did the editor in chief of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld, come to New York instead of staying in Paris for the wedding of President Nicolas Sarkozy to Italian model-singer Carla Bruni? We cornered Roitfeld as she stepped off the elevator on the fifth floor of the New Museum at the Lutz & Patmos presentation Sunday evening. “I wasn’t invited,” she told us before even greeting Tina Lutz and Marcia Patmos, for whom Roitfeld once guest-designed. So she doesn’t know the happy couple? “Yeah, I know Carla,” Roitfeld told us in heavily accented English. “But I don’t think I’m going to give a gift,” she said, before drifting off to look at the alpaca minidress by Kirsten Dunst, this season’s guest designer. —Bennett Marcus
