Out of Nowhere, Amanda Laine Storms Europe

After winning the V magazine and Supreme Model Management’s “V a Model!” (get it??) contest, official new girl Amanda Laine has surprised everyone by quickly popping up on Milan runways. That's right — it seems possible to win a modeling contest and actually have a high-fashion career thereafter! Who knew? Anyhow, back to Amanda's rise: The whole thing is rather uncanny, as she'd never even considered modeling before December 2007 — but there she was, walking in Milan's top shows, Marni and Prada. And now Laine’s success has continued over to Paris, where she's already strutted at Balenciaga and Yohji Yamamoto; Louis Vuitton's next on her schedule. So who exactly is this girl who's come out of nowhere to invade the fall shows? Actually, with a catwalk stare/glare like that, does it even matter? You're putty in her path. — Kendall Herbst
