This just in: Coming hot on the heels of yesterday's well-received Yves Saint Laurent show, the maison has announced a four-year sponsorship of New York's Metropolitan Opera — one the biggest philanthropic moves in the house's history. YSL will sponsor the Met's opening-night galas, the first of which is on April 21 for Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment. YSL head designer Stefano Pilati (who Cathy Horyn just put on the same plane as Balenciaga darling Nicolas Ghesquière) will co-host the opening-night dinner with YSL CEO Valérie Hermann. What's more, YSL will continue to sponsor a production-night gala event for the next three years, which is a pretty major (and unique) commitment. You know what this means? The French like us! They really like us!
