The award for menswear went to Tom Ford, chest hair restrained behind a fine, fully buttoned tuxedo. It's his first win in the category, though he's previously won for womenswear and accessories for his work at Yves Saint Laurent. So now he really has no reason to go back to the ladies (sniff). Kate and Laura Mulleavy, however, have every reason to stick to lady clothes: The much-lauded Rodarte design duo won the Swarovski award for emerging talent in womenswear.
In the wake of Yves Saint Laurent's passing, last night's attendees paid homage to the legendary couturier. Naomi Campbell wore a YSL sequined pantsuit from the fall '08 collection while CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg looked smashing in a vintage black YSL jacket. She told WWD she made a last-minute wardrobe change after she had all her Yves Saint Laurent sent in from her country home. Oh, the life.
