It seems designers are finally responding to the discontent over the absence of black models on the runways by having more diverse castings this season.
Tyson Beckford opened the
Dsquared2 show in Milan, followed by mostly not-white models. It's fitting news to report on the day the all-black issue of Italian
Vogue hits stands in Italy — but changing up old standards is not just an Italian thing. It may carry over to Paris as well. Confessions of a Casting Director is
reporting a rumor that the models in the
Lanvin show will be entirely "ethnic," too. We must point out, however, that while this is all very exciting, Sean "Diddy" Combs started it when he showed his fall 2008
Sean John collection with an
all-black cast at Fashion Week back in February. So let's not forget to give him a retroactive pat on the back, too.
