FRAGRANCE

• Van Cleef & Arpels jewelers is releasing a scent, and the packaging is very Lord of the Rings: A tall sculpture of a fairy on a branch for the cap tops a textured sphere. Execs say it will be one of the most expensive perfumes on the market. [Cosmetic News]

• Puma launched a men's and women's fragrance set: Free Flowing Woman and Free Flowing Man. The women's is floral, while the men's is citrusy and woodsy. Hippie spirit not included. [Now Smell This]

SKIN
• New commercials for skin-lightening creams in India are causing controversy. They star three huge Bollywood actresses and imply you need light skin to snag a man. The cream is made by Unilever, the same company that trumpets "love your body" in Dove ads. [Jezebel]

MAKEUP
• Speaking of Lancôme's new Maharani Jewels collection features a bronzer embossed with an elephant. It's quite fabulous. [BellaSugar]

• M.A.C's highly anticipated Electro Flash collection hits counters today. So go get some and get your rave on. Or something. [Makeup Loves Me]

• Wicked Lovely, Smashbox's fall collection, takes a darker turn with colors like sooty gray, pewter, and black. Oh, dark colors for fall? How surprising. [BellaSugar]

PLASTIC SURGERY
• There are less fake boobs and retinol-ed faces in the world this year: Plastic surgeons say business has slowed 53 percent. We guess it's one of the good side effects of no one being able to afford anything these days. [USAT]
