When we heard about Mattel’s upcoming three-year partnership with the CFDA this winter, we were scared. But the inhumanly shaped toy has long been embedded in the fashion industry. More than a dozen designers have outfitted her since she first hit shelves in 1959, including Givenchy, Versace, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, and Zac Posen. In celebration of Barbie’s 50th anniversary, Assouline just released a $500, 128-page tome chronicling the iconic doll’s glamorous history, called Barbie, by Yona Zeldis McDonough.
