Madonna’s Louis Vuitton Ads Are Out!

At last Louis Vuitton has released images from its spring 2009 campaign, starring Madonna, and we are relieved. She looks much more fetching here than she did at the Gucci party last month in the green version of that hairy orange skirt. The bag, the shoes, the bracelets, the leg in the air — they’re a win! Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs told WWD that the fishnets were Madge’s idea. We’re not surprised — she wears them onstage for her Sticky and Sweet tour, and it wouldn’t be very Madonna of her to shed her persona entirely, especially at a time when critics are saying she’s lost it.

Jacobs said it all came together when he was at a meeting to brainstorm ideas for the next ad campaign, still reeling from the amazing-ness of the Madonna concert he saw the night before. “I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’” he said. So he sent her a message on his BlackBerry during the meeting, and five minutes later, she replied, “I’d love to.” So apparently she is that easy. The images, shot by Steven Meisel, are meant to evoke a Parisian bistro, though they were taken at a restaurant in L.A., naturally. And contrary to previous reports, Vuitton’s communications director, Antoine Arnault, said Madge did not receive $10 million for the spot, but a figure “very far away from that.” Why should she care about cash when she can get shoes, bags, and bracelets? Did we mention the shoes? Click on to see another image from the campaign.
