Olivier Theyskens’s Contract Expires in October, Negotiations to Follow

Following yesterday’s devastating news that Olivier Theyskens may be out at Nina Ricci, today WWD comes to find out that we have on our hands the usual contract situation. Let’s call this, perhaps, the Hedi sitch. Olivier’s contract is due to expire in October, and he’s staying onboard until then, meaning we get at least one last amazing collection from him. “At this point, we’re very happy with his contribution,” president of Puig Fashion Mario Grauso said. “I look forward to seeing his next show, after which we’ll start the negotiations, which is typical.”

Maybe Olivier can work this to get his own namesake label finally? Or if not, perhaps it’s time for him to branch out on his own. Surely Reese Witherspoon et al can pony up a few bucks to back the man who makes such glorious red-carpet gowns? (We all remember that drop-dead purple number she wore.) Because though we all think he’s an amazing talent, it’s the money that counts. And we doubt Reese (or anyone in Hollywood) has ever had to actually pay for a dress. So here’s our plea: Everyone with money, buy up the fall collection the second it walks. Now then, who’s making the “Save Olivier” tees?
