Best Bet: Surf in the City

We’ve been fans of Brooklyn-based photographer Matt Schwartz of She Hit Pause Studios for a while now, ever since we stumbled across his photos at the Brooklyn Flea. Schwartz creates retro prints from his original Polaroid transfers, with a particular penchant for shooting golden-hued beach scenes, faded Coney Island relics, and saucy pinup-style portraits. But our current favorites are his latest additions: grainy, sunlit surfing images from Ecuador and Costa Rica all blue skies, white surf, and sand. Despite the deluge of rain that’s been pounding New York, Schwartz’s gorgeous, washed-out photographs capture the essence of a breezy, beachy existence. And at $150 to $200 apiece framed, the affordable prints can serve as a reminder of seaside jaunts yet to come this summer.
$65 to $85 unframed, $150 to $200 framed; at Brooklyn Flea Dumbo or at SheHitPauseStudios.com.
