let's party

Isaac Mizrahi Will Perform a Cabaret Act at Bergdorf for Fashion’s Night Out

With Fashion’s Night Out looming, every designer and retailer in the city is planning on something special to lure in shoppers and keep them entertained. From cabaret acts to D.J.’s to full-on block parties, September 10 is going to be one helluva night. While some stores are still scrambling to book an act or a bold-faced in-store appearance, we checked in with some friendly boutiques and designers for a taste of what’s on the menu.

Barneys will be host to a slew of designers, and, we hear, a Vogue editor or two. But so far, we know of a VIP shopping event for the launch of Duckie Brown’s Florsheim footwear collaboration. Plus, Behnaz Sarafpour will be setting up a miniature design studio at the store, complete with personalized sketches.

Billy Reid will serve Pabst Blue Ribbon and Woodford Reserve and host a performance by the Greg Spradlin Outfit, a bluesy southern rock band. Mr. Billy Reid promises to join the band onstage at the end of the evening, after enough PBRs.

Built by Wendy is co-hosting a block party on Centre Market Street with its stylish neighbors, No. 6 and Ric Pipino Salon. Wine will be served.

Derek Lam, joined by fashion friends Lisa Phillips, B.J. Topol, and Dean Harris, is throwing a party at his Crosby Street store. Champagne cocktails will be served while guests preview Harris’s new jewelry collection. Lam will also set up a pop-up shop and gallery (12 Crosby Street, near Grand Street; 212-966-1616) with the New Museum showcasing the designs of SANAA, the architects of the New Museum and the Derek Lam store.

• Between 7:30 and 8:30, Isaac Mizrahi will appear at his spankin’-new shop (East 67th Street near Madison Avenue) to christen it with wine before he heads to Bergdorf Goodman to perform an in-store cabaret act that, thankfully, will also come with cocktails.

Rachel Roy is celebrating the launch of her diffusion line, Rachel Rachel Roy, with a pop-up shop at 111 Spring Street (near Greene Street) that’ll showcase the street art of tagger SenOne. The party will be hosted by Estelle, with music by D.J. Lady Bunny and food from a vintage Good Humor truck. Party guests can sign custom graffiti panels to show support for the charity New Yorkers for Children.

• At Jussara Lee, Sue London will showcase her new leather bags and shoes while Lee launches her ready-to-wear collection.

Sir’s Williamsburg location will be serving drinks and showing its fall/winter collection while taking custom orders of its silk pieces. A local musical artist will also play an acoustic window set.

Tom Binns will have Harley Viera-Newton spinning a set that’ll be heavy on post-punk. (We knew somebody would.)

All mentioned stores will be open until at least 11 p.m. And stay tuned — we suspect there’s a friendly competition among the fashion set to outdo one another that night, and we’ll continue to let you know who’s in the lead.
