Jerry once told George on Seinfeld, "You know the message you're sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You're telling the world: 'I give up. I can't compete in normal society. I'm miserable, so I might as well be comfortable.'" Well that was 1993. Welcome, friends, to 2009, where sweatpants are the new dress pants. (Or at least, the new premium jeans.) Designers have latched onto the look Alexander Wang put on the runway two seasons ago, updating the comfy garment with fancy versions for spring 2010. Sweatpants-loving labels ranged from Wang to DKNY to officewear king Elie Tahari. Band of Outsiders and Generra also showed styles for men. So, heading to the disco? Having dinner with your significant other's parents? Doing some weekend shopping? Embrace the sweatpants — they're one of spring's most versatile garments.
