Emanuel Ungaro Rumors Persist in the Post

Last week the Post reported that Emanuel Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah wanted to sell the label after Lindsay Lohan’s embarrassing stint there. Though he denied the rumor in WWD the next day, the Post persistently reports today that though Abdullah may not currently be in talks with anyone about selling, he was, and may still be, interested in doing so.

Sources tell the paper that Abdullah was in talks to sell the label to Matteo Marzotto, a former Valentino chairman who claimed last year that when he dated Naomi Campbell she hit him. Though that may have not worked out, Abdullah still wants to unload the label. He has also reportedly been trying to lure Giambattista Valli back to design, which would surely make the label fashionably relevant and respectable again. (Valli designed Ungaro until 2005, before Abdullah owned it.)

The Post continues to report that the Ungaro store will in fact move into the mall underneath the Plaza Hotel that no one knows about or seems to care to visit. Contrary to the paper’s previous assertions that Lohan was paid in clothes alone for her work at Ungaro, today the paper says Abdullah has to pay her $1.5 million a year for three years, owing to contractual obligations. However, he may not have to babysit her anymore. The Post reports that last September when Lohan trashed her Bowery Hotel room after a fight with Samantha Ronson, Abdullah had to pay the $12,000 in damages, which included a smashed TV set.

Abdullah “had to go down the next morning with his credit card,” the source said.

But here’s where you have to question what you read. Why wouldn’t Abdullah just call in his credit-card information? The only people who actually do things face-to-face for no reason these days are the characters on Gossip Girl.
