Housing Works Launches an Alexander McQueen Online Auction

Though it has long been an undervalued spot for slightly worn designer garb, Housing Works’s new Hell’s Kitchen location is raising the bar with a silent auction devoted to Alexander McQueen. The outpost’s front windows will feature over 30 items by the late designer, including gowns, overcoats, blazers, leather pants, and accessories. The pieces are all available for bidding on the Housing Works website, where prices are criminally low so far: A leather and fur bustier dress from the fall 2007 collection is currently going for $217 (originally $15,000) and an intricately beaded charmeuse gown from fall 2008 is $214.76 (originally $12,800). The auction runs through April 11 and all proceeds benefit homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.
