Jil Sander to Design for Uniqlo Indefinitely

In January, Jil Sander had to decide if she would continue her collaboration with Uniqlo. She decided to stay with the brand designing her +J line indefinitely, and may expand the collection with bags and shoes. Though WWD notes Sander “isn’t an easy person to please,” she says she’s getting along swimmingly with Uniqlo’s owner Fast Retailing, which she calls “quite fast.” Though Sander won’t rule out a return to high fashion, she suggests it’s not really necessary to spend the money on that stuff for good clothing anyway:

“I try as much as possible to give you a great basic product and what comes out, I feel, is really amazing,” Sander said, adding she has been pleasantly surprised at the quality of many affordable fabrics, including high-tech cottons, silks and cashmere. “You don’t have to pay more to have a great form.”

Good, because we weren’t planning on it. Sander doesn’t seem to be, either — she did this interview wearing a +J coat and shirt.
