Nigel Barker has seemed to resent André Leon Talley since he took his throne — and all the thunder — on the ANTM judging panel. But this week Talley kindly gave Nigel room to speak and reclaim the spotlight he once enjoyed. “I think it’s pretty,” he says of one photo. “I don’t think it’s horrible. Um, but it takes a lot for me to be at a loss for words. Help me, Nigel.” And then Nigel jumps in, graciously reciting a critique you know he’d been thinking of for at least two days. But Nigel will never have dreckitude. When Talley doesn’t know what to say, he should just say that over and over again or start talking like an opera singer, which is what Tyra does to make her analyses (and self) seem deeper.
