Minimalism has been used time and again on the runways for maximum impact, more recently in Celine’s fall 2010 and Jil Sander’s spring 2011 shows. In Collins Design’s Minimalism and Fashion: Reduction in the Postmodern Era, author Elyssa Dimant explores the influence of minimalism on art, design, and fashion from the sixties to today. With a foreward written by Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa, the beautiful coffee-table book tracks the minimalism movement in fashion as exemplified by greats ranging from Coco Chanel and Roy Halston Frowick to Miuccia Prada and Hussien Chalayan. Dimant looks at these designers’ work alongside the artwork of Andy Warhol, Sol LeWitt, and Cindy Sherman, among others, to see how the two worlds relate. The book goes on sale nationwide October 26, but click ahead for a preview of some of its lovely imagery.
