Apparently the man-made private island community off Dubai for very rich, fashion-conscious people that Karl Lagerfeld was helping to design, where rivers, residences, forests, and malls all seamlessly combine like a rain forest that also grows buildings, is too good to be true. Renderings of this Isla Moda — the real-life La Isla Bonita fashion people have been craving — leaked onto the Internet last week without the consent of Oppenheim, the architecture firm that was working on the project with the Kaiser. A rep for the firm spoke to the New York Observer:
“The project is on hold, basically,” she said. “It’s kind of unfortunate. I don’t know. There’s not a lot going on.” With the project or in Dubai? “There’s not a lot going on anywhere.”
Well, that sucks. For a lot of loaded folks, that’s one less excuse to buy a new boat.
