White House Confirms Michelle Obama’s Assistant Meredith Koop Is Dressing Her

That Ikram Goldman is no longer Michelle Obama’s unofficial stylist has been all but confirmed for some time. Apparently Meredith Koop, a personal assistant to the first lady, really has taken over the job. “Ms. Koop’s responsibilities include advising the first lady on her wardrobe and acting on her behalf in arranging for purchases, including considering the best offered price and buying on discount if discounts are available,” a rep for the White House tells the Washington Post. Koop is not supposed to “give press interviews or otherwise interact with the media,” the rep added. Apparently Koop came into her current role because she used to work for Goldman and was dispatched by the boutique owner to the White House to help Michelle with her wardrobe. After a falling out with Goldman, Koop took over. (Then there was that McQueen dress you might have heard of.)

The Post has detailed accounts of how the FLOTUS’s highly secretive clothing operations run. Basically, Koop sorts through all the clothes Michelle gets sent, commissions things, and tries to get Michelle a discount on everything she wears, which she does actually purchase, the paper is told. Unsurprisingly, Michelle usually gets a discount.
