Hermès CEO Likens LVMH’s Buyout Attempts to ‘Rape’

At a press conference held at the Hermès headquarters in Paris this morning, Hermès CEO Patrick Thomas shared some of his personal musings on the company’s future, particularly regarding LVMH’s aggressive takeover attempts. Reiterating his previous calls for LVMH’s Bernard Arnault to reduce his shareholdings, he reminded the audience that Arnault has insisted his intentions toward Hermès are “peaceful.” Thomas then composed yet another flowery metaphor for the situation: “If you want to seduce a beautiful woman, you don’t start by raping her from behind,” he said. The audience reacted to his statement with audible gasps, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
