Marc Jacobs on Replacing John Galliano at Dior: ‘I Haven’t Been Asked’

People hot and bothered by Derek Blasberg’s tweet that someone — devoid of name or association, mind you — backstage at the Katy Perry concert told him Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci would take over design for Dior following John Galliano’s dismissal may have reason to cool their hot flashes. Suzy Menkes did a little more investigating — but at Marc Jacobs’s fall 2011 Louis Vuitton show this morning, not at a pop garbage concert:

“No!” said [Jacobs] backstage, when asked if he had John Galliano’s former position in mind. He then added: “I haven’t been asked.”

Bernard Arnault, chairman and founder of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, seated front row, said no decision had been made about Mr Galliano’s replacement. “We’re thinking,” he said.

People close to LVMH who chose not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject say Mr. Jacobs is a possible candidate, but he does the Vuitton thing so well that it would be a risk to move him.
