Inside Nordstrom’s Do-gooder Concept Shop Treasure & Bond

Nordstrom’s new philanthropic concept store, Treasure & Bond, opens on Friday, with 100 percent of the store’s profits benefiting New York–based charities. (The store credits the nonprofit business plan to Anna Wintour herself; apparently, the idea started with a phone call from the Vogue EIC to Pete Nordstrom.)

The store will choose two new charitable organizations each quarter; profits from now through October will go to the New York Public Library’s Programs for Children and Young Adults, and NYC’s Young Men’s Initiative.

We attended the press preview last night to scope out the offerings. Despite the philanthropic slant, this isn’t an outlet or designer discount outpost. The two-story, 11,137-square-foot store stocks over 150 full-price brands, an impressive mash-up of clothes, jewelry, accessories, home décor, fragrances, gifts, and books. You’ll find jewelry by Biules, Giles & Brother, and Melissa Joy Manning; apparel by Rogan, Vince, James Perse, and Nicholas K; and housewares by Kikkerland, Thomas Paul, and Molla Space. The first floor is devoted to home, accessories, and books (plus a forthcoming café, which will serve Stumptown coffee and baked goods), while the upper level is packed with clothes for men, women, and kids.
