Designer Richard Nicoll hasn't yet offered his thoughts on John Galliano, so he will now:

"[Galliano] had accepted his job and was in quite a privileged position," he said. "Sure, he has to work hard but I do think that it's reflective of what's going on in fashion. It's interesting that at the moment there have been three losses with McQueen, Galliano, and the Balmain guy Christopher Decarnin all seemingly suffering from the pressures."

Nicoll would join Azzedine Alaia's crusade to relieve designers of some pressure.

"I like my work," he told Time Out Hong Kong. "But I kind of despise it as well. Sometimes it's just the relentlessness of the schedule. It's obviously quite pressured and quite stressful … This whole consumer demand for new, now and everything's got to be renewed every few months … I think that's got to implode at some point. For young brands, it's getting impossible to continue making so many collections for the work to be worthy of showing. I am not sure how you can come up with eight ideas a year and really endorse them and make them worthy of presenting."

It might be stressful but the fashion cycle is not likely to slow down on the designers' behalf any time soon. Not when luxury labels are finally able to mark up items that they've been discounting for the past couple of years. Very few labels are in the position to say, "Don't worry about creating more stuff to sell. We don't want the money."
