Far, far away from sandbagged storefronts and big dirty puddles, Sofia Coppola married her longtime boyfriend Tom Mars in Southern Italy on Saturday. And because you surely needed an antidote to the Kardashian wedding, here it is: The ceremony took place behind Francis Ford Coppola's house (well, okay, "grand palazzo") in a tiny Italian village, was officiated by the local mayor, and included about 80 guests, who were allowed to wear whatever they wanted.
Sofia herself wore a sleeveless violet Azzedine Alaïa dress that didn't show any decolletage. While full-length photos have yet to emerge, you can see that the bodice was made of delicate sheer fabric, shirred and tailored at the waist. Her hair and makeup looked the same as it always does, and her head was refreshingly free of pomp and circumstance like dangling baubles and tulle. Alaïa himself wasn't there, and there's no word on whether Marc Jacobs, who often consults Sofia on his collections and has featured her in his ads, was in attendance; Johnny Depp and George Lucas both came, however. The wedding did have one (good) thing in common with Kim's, though: a very impressive cake.
