Alexander Wang Expands in Paris, ‘Giggled’ About LVMH

Alexander Wang announced today that he's secured a corner space inside the Paris department store Printemps, where he'll open a large shop-in-shop in November. Printemps gave Wang an initial trial run with a pop-up boutique on the store's second floor, which will close at the end of October and, incidentally, features a "customized tufted ottoman." His new shop will be his largest presence in Paris to date.

The announcement of Wang's Paris expansion also provided an opportunity for reporters to ask him about the rumors of his "talks" with LVMH. WWD reports:

Wang giggled nervously at the mention of the rumors, but also declined to elaborate. Emphasizing his pride at having grown his company without external financing, he nonetheless did not rule out an alliance in the future.

“I always take a meeting and I always want to hear what people have to offer, but at the same time, I’ve been very content with focusing on our own brand,” he said. Wang said that if he took on an additional design gig, it would have to be something outside his comfort zone.

“If I was to do something else, I would want to do something that would be completely different from me,” he said, adding: “Sometimes you don’t get to say all you want to say in your brand.”

But how could anyone feel limited by tufted ottomans and furry hammocks and light-up art installations?
