Bill Gaytten, who took over John Galliano’s namesake label after he was fired from LVMH, presented a full-on runway show in Paris over the weekend. The new stuff by the label, which just put on a small presentation last season, is evidently lacking the man who founded it, but Gaytten certainly took more creative liberties here than he did at his Dior show. The look at Galliano this season is supposed to be twenties, with a flavor of Mary Poppins, Gaytten told the Financial Times. Gaytten, who is shaping up to be quite a likable guy in the face of a lot of criticism of his work (that of his couture collection for Dior, he acknowledges, was “deserved and fair”), says he would have been happy to stay a pattern cutter in Galliano’s shadow. He adds that he’s been in touch with his former boss.

As for the prospect of Mr Galliano returning to fashion, Gaytten is coy. “We’ll see,” he says. “It’s not over until it’s over. I can’t say any more than that right now.”
