Tunisian-born fashion designer Loris Azzaro once said, “The ideal dress? If a woman wants to put it on, a man wants to take it off.” The designer’s impeccably cut evening dresses, which usually put the wearer’s décolletage on display, were favored by bosomy femme fatales like Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, and Marisa Berenson during the sixties and seventies. In Assouline’s forthcoming book, Azzaro, to be released next month, fashion historian Jéromine Savignon gives an account of the late designer’s life, complete with accompanying photos by Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin.
