Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Metiers d’Arts pre-fall collection, titled “Paris–Bombay” and described as “Indian-inspired,” walked today in Paris. The runways were framed by long banquet tables set with white tablecloths, silver bowls, and lots of crystal (it even looks like there were snacks, but surely for staging purposes only). The collection itself featured sarilike garments, jeweled headpieces, baggy pants, and embellished sandals with lots of gold detailing. The collection’s title references Bombay rather than the Indian capital’s modern-day name, Mumbai, perhaps as a nod to the city’s history as a European trading post. In other news, several of the models — including Daphne Groeneveld (shown above) — had their hair twisted up into what appear to be faux-dreadlocks.
