Tweens Spend $500 Million a Year on Beauty Products

MAKEUP
• Fragrances and body sprays are the most popular beauty product among 8- to 12-year-old girls. That might sound a little young for beauty shopping, but this age group spends $500 million on beauty products each year. Thanks, Miley Cyrus! [WWD]

• Vincent Longo's summer collection is called Shimmer, Glimmer, and Shine and, like every other new makeup collection this season, it's all about bronze. This line includes a hydro stick, gloss, and liquid shadow and looks wearable. [Face Candy]

• If you curl your lashes with an eyelash curler before and after applying mascara, your eyelashes will fall out. So don’t do that. [BellaSugar]

FRAGRANCE
• Artists Yoon Lee created a limited-edition bottle for the DKNY Be Delicious scent. It’s $68 at Macy’s. [Teen Vogue]

• The signature fragrance from Agent Provocateur was so successful, the company is launching two follow-up body products with the same scent. These will also include Damiana, a natural aphrodisiac. No word on if they'll put out any new Internet movies featuring Kate Moss in her panties to promote them. [British Vogue]

• Josh Hartnett is the new face of Armani's Diamonds for Men scent. (You may recall Beyoncé fronted Diamonds for Women last year.) The company promises “a memorable print and TV campaign.” Golly, we hope that means a naked Josh with strategically placed paste-on diamonds. [WWD]

• The first-ever Perfume Expo America closes today in New York. Oh, you didn’t hear about it? Sounds about right. Vendors are complaining about the low turnout. [Cosmetic News]

MAKEUP
Christian Dior will launch the Dior Beauty Institute with the Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris this September. It’s going to be the only one of its kind — featuring skin-care and beauty treatments. Can we go? [Cosmetic News]

• Beauty rules from Bobbi Brown: Don't keep mascara more than six months; don’t use a pencil for brows because it never looks natural — opt for a shadow instead; finally, test your lipsticks without any other makeup on — that’s how you find a keeper. [Makeup Divas]

• Some bloggers think J.Lo was a little too matchy-matchy with her eye makeup, nail color, and dress at the Dior resort show last night. We can't say the tangerine matte lipstick adds much either, but then again, it’s Dior by John Galliano. At least we know she gets his aesthetic. [Non Blonde]

• The Maybelline Define-A-Brow is an easy brow liner and comb that comes in six colors for just $7, which is the perfect price point for a brow brush and liner. [Face Candy]

• Colette ordered the Eau d’Italie’s Magnolia Romana fragrance without even testing it — a huge credit to the power of the brand. The magnolia fragrance is the fifth scent from Eau d’Italie, which you'll find in New York at Bergdorf Goodman. [WWD]

SKIN
• Styledash put together the list of Hollywood’s most fabulous tanning disasters. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Hulk Hogan are givens, but they boldly added Donatella Versace and Giorgio Armani. You know, if we lived in Italy, we'd take advantage too. [Styledash]

• Queens is home to a five-story 60,000-square-foot spa and water park called Inspa World. It's got pools, hot tubs, saunas, massage rooms, a food court, and best of all, a room that only plays Korean soap operas with English subtitles. We’re so there. [NYT]

A Video Lesson in Blow-drying

Ladies, you don't have to spend longer than fifteen minutes making your hair look fabulous in the morning. That's how long it takes to achieve the perfect blowout, according to our friends at the Pierre Michel salon. New York's beauty and market editor Aja Mangum stopped by with our video camera for a quick lesson and picked up some valuable tips. Don't start with a soaking wet head, and be careful with that product! Less is more. Watch and find out where you ought to avoid applying hair gunk altogether.

• Have you noticed? Camilla Belle has really lovely eyebrows. Props to her for keeping them thick, not drawn-on or overtweezed like we see with other celebrities. Ahem, Pam Anderson. [Daily Beauty Reporter/Allure]

• If your waterproof mascara just can't withstand your sweat at the gym, ensure your lashes stay dark by dying them with lash tint, which stings for fifteen minutes when applied. • Jo Wood Organics is releasing Everyday, a line of more-affordable products to encourage repeat customers. By more affordable, we mean a jar of body scrub costs $47. [WWD]

• Even if you shy away from vanilla scents because they're too potent and recognizable you might like Sephora's Lavanila fragrance line, which pairs the scent with coconut, grapefruit, and florals. Trust us, one spritz of these is plenty. [Fragrance Fanatic]

NAILS
• The holographic colors from the China Glaze OMG Text in Colour 2BHot Collection are almost as obnoxious as the color names like OMG, 2NITE, IDK, LOL, and two more we can't bear to type. [Makeup and Beauty Blog]

FRAGRANCE
• This fall, Jennifer Lopez will launch her first men’s fragrance called Deseo (the Spanish word for desire) for Men. It's supposed to make one desire another. Hm, maybe she needed something to counteract Marc Anthony's greasy hair. Oh, we kid, we kid. [WWD]

• Cartier will also launch a men’s fragrance called Roadster, named after its watch line. It has a strong scent of mint, and it’s targeted to older men. Weird. [Cosmetic News]

HAIR
• Apparently Speidi, the Hills TV creature duo we can’t get enough of, use the same hair colorist at Piero in Santa Monica. Spencer Pratt is so metro. [E! via Jezebel]

• The new three-level Warren-Tricomi salon set to open at the 57th Street Plaza Hotel will feature the first Shu Uemura Art of Hair Institute and a Sally Hansen Nail Clinic. It's a triple threat, people! [WWD]

• Gag alert! Paris Hilton is launching a line of hair extensions called Clipin-Go by Paris Hilton. It includes ten hair colors per set, which costs an exorbitant $80. At least it’s not self-tanner. [WWD]

FRAGRANCE
• Ads for Dolce & Gabbana's new fragrance the One for Men with Matthew McConaughey have been everywhere, and the fragrance is finally out and reviews are pouring in. After the first spray it smells like freshly baked cardamom cookies; after twenty minutes, an onion patch and then a woody-musk scent. Ew — onions and cologne do not mix. [Now Smell This]

MAKEUP
• This blog suggests getting your mom the Balm’s Sexy Mama Powder for Mother’s Day. Because giving Mom something with the word "Sexy" with a capital "S" in its name is normal. [BellaSugar]

• Damone Roberts, the self-proclaimed “Eyebrow King” just opened a new salon in midtown to follow up to his Beverly Hills start-up. He plans to launch a cosmetics line in 2009, because there's nothing the Eyebrow King can't handle. [We Love Beauty]

• Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps claims the Stella McCartney CARE skin-care brand misleads consumers. Oh snap! She claims her products contain 100 percent organic active ingredients, but the soap company says she's frontin'. [Cosmetic News]

• Researchers have confirmed that people find symmetrical faces sexy because it may indicate disease resistance. Nothing's hotter than a raging immune system [Jezebel]

• Gillette released a $150 Fusion Chrome Collection Power Razor, complete with five blades and a flashlight. It also vibrates. Does this mean everything we thought we knew about men's shaving is wrong? Actually, we're not sure we want to know. [Style Dash]

• Kat Von D, owner of High Voltage Tattoo, launches her Sephora makeup line on May 12, and you don’t have to have sleeves of tats or severe eyeliner to wear the shades. The lip colors, liners, and shadows are designed to look tame or wild, per your own artistic application. [Temptalia]

COSMETIC SURGERY
• Ever wonder how stars are able to wear heels so darn much? Michael Kors revealed "absolutely everybody in New York" gets biodegradable hyaluronic acid and Sephadex injected to the balls of their feet for extra cushioning. Why not? • The market for skin-lightening creams in India grew 150 percent. For example, sales of Fair and Handsome, a “fairness cream for men” increased enormously. In America brighteners are also popular, but just targeted to those who want to eliminate under-eye circles. [Jezebel]
