Magazines Vie for 'Project Runway' Spot; DVF Makes Walk of Fame

Diane von FurstenbergPhoto: Getty Images

• These five magazines are competing for the Project Runway sponsorship for season six, the show's first on the Lifetime network: Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar and In Style. Guess how the Weinstein Co. will choose the winner? By whoever pays the most! [WWD]

• Liz Claiborne and Diane von Furstenberg will be added to Seventh Avenue's Fashion Walk of Fame. We wonder if any parties like P. Diddy's Hollywood Walk of Fame fete are in the works. [WWD]

• Nike's CEO thinks Olympics boycott efforts in China won't impact the event too much. It would suck for them if it did since Nike is dressing a majority of China's teams. [WWD]

• Macy's lost $59 million in its first quarter. Its women's merchandise just ain't selling like it used to. [WWD]

• Puma is entering a yacht in a 10-month sail-around-the-world contest. They hope this will help them sell more performance sailing gear and nautical-inspired lifestyle apparel. That reminds us! We simply must finalize our summer yachting wardrobe. [WWD]

• Conservative, retro swimwear is back! (Think boycut shorts and one pieces.) Why? Women are finally over showing off the goods. [NYT]

Christian Dior Resort Images Are Up! Naomi Campbell to Walk for Lagerfeld?

The Dior resort show. The runway was supposed to be a pool. Neat, huh?Photo: imaxtree

• Images from the Christian Dior resort show are up! Skip that afternoon cookie and take a gander. Trust us — they're just as satisfying. [Christian Dior Resort/NYM]

Naomi Campbell might walk in Karl Lagerfeld's resort collection show for Chanel in Miami tomorrow. If she's flying we really hope she makes it. (You knew that was coming.) [Fashion Week Daily]

• Here's a peek at Christian Siriano's collection for Bluefly. By peek we mean there's a photo of his sketches and another one of him sitting next to some fabric swatches. [Flypaper]

• Tori Spelling is the new face of Skechers. It's all part of their plan to target the family market. Admit it, somewhere deep down Tori gives you the warm fuzzies. [Sassybella]

• Cate Blanchett will wear only Armani during the Cannes Film Festival. [Fashionologie]

• The leggings in Lindsay Lohan's new line have built-in knee pads. Also, it appears she used a blonde model in her promotional event in L.A. Will she go against her casting call and use her in the ad campaign? Suspense! [Hollywood Crap]

Vanessa Paradis Nabs Miu Miu; ‘Stylista’ Anticipation Begins

Vanessa ParadisPhoto: Getty Images

• Vanessa Paradis is the new face of Miu Miu. So long, Kirsten Dunst. [WWD]

America's Next Top Model got picked up for another season (we refuse to call it a "cycle") at upfronts week. It'll air Wednesdays followed by Tyra Banks's new fashion-assistant survivor reality show with Elle magazine, Stylista. At least we all know what it's really called now. [WP]

• Uggs hired L.A.-based designer Rozae Nichols to design its outerwear collection, which will include a $595 suede hooded pullover and $2,300 long shearling coat. We've always wanted to wear the Uggs we never owned as, um, coats. [WWD]

Tommy Hilfiger will marry Dee Ocleppo in the Plaza Hotel this fall. Eloping is so passé. [NYP]

• The fashion flock packed up their fabulous and trucked (or yachted) it to Cannes for the film festival. Roberto Cavalli needed an extra room on his hotel suite for the 150 dresses he hopes starlets will wear. [WWD]

• L.A. boutique Kitson owner Fraser Ross is worried about the economy. Finally someone in the fashion business admits it! [WWD]

Donna Karan Expands; ‘Project Runway’ Designers Show at Gen Art

Taylor SwiftPhoto: Getty Images

• Donna Karan will launch a "better-priced" DKNYC label. While the retail market has been grim for many, DKNY has been selling well in stores like Bloomingdale's and Saks. Golf clap. [WWD]

• Gen Art's spring fashion show on Monday will feature work by Project Runway castoffs Alison Kelly (who recently debuted her Dahl NYC line in Brooklyn) and Jillian Lewis. They're up for the Designer of the Year award. [Fashionista]

• Taylor Swift will mug for the L.E.I. jeans back-to-school campaign. They're trying to get everyone excited since this is the brand's first campaign since leaving department stores to sell exclusively at Wal-Mart. [WWD]

• Karl Lagerfeld will show his Chanel cruise collection in Miami on Thursday. The day after the show a Chanel widget will broadcast clips of the show, red-carpet interviews, and pictures of the attending celebrities for people like us who won't be there. We love how Karl always thinks of the little people. [WWD]

• Karl Lagerfeld's resort collection for Fendi was seventies-inspired and light on embellishments. [WWD]

• Sophie Dahl has a "memoir about food" in the works called Miss Dahl's Voluptuous Delights. The supermodel dropped from a size 16 to 8. We love when models write books. [British Vogue]

Sarah Jessica Parker, Your Hat Is Astounding

Photo: Getty Images

• At the London premiere of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker wore a major hat that looked like she had a garden growing out of her head. How very quirky Carrie of her! We suppose it's a good way to add a little extra height, welcome summer, and draw attention, although we really pity the person who waited all this time for the movie and then got seated behind her. Also, take note of the monarch butterflies carefully affixed to that sucker. Such attention to detail! [HuffPo]

• It really looks like Heatherette boys Richie Rich and Traver Rains are not breaking up. Whew! The two attended Playboy's Playmate of the Year luncheon together and designed a dress for Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole "fashioned from silk flowers, tulle, Swarovski crystals, and, of course, loads of glitter." Thank God some things never change. [Fashion Week Daily]

• IMG Models signed Leigh Lezark of the MisShapes. Here's a first look at her comp card. [Of the Minute]

Tory Burch could have a fragrance and home collection in the works. If only we had come up with those flats, that could have been us. [Style]

Marc Jacobs: "Surprise birthdays are horrid! I remember when Ben and Jen [that's J.Lo to mere mortals] threw me one in Paris. Benny Medina called the night before I was leaving for New York, on my birthday, and said there was a problem with the photos. I thought, 'Oh great, she was an angel during the shoot and now she's pulling the diva act.'" [Fashion Week Daily]

• This one-shoulder black Balmain frock is so hot Eva Herzigova, Kate Hudson, and Carine Roitfeld have been photographed wearing it. [Fashionologie]

Jenna Bush's Wedding Dress and John Galliano's New York Show

Photo: Getty Images

• Finally we know what Jenna Bush's wedding gown looked like! And it was streamlined and very textured, resembling the surface of a coral reef. [NYDN]

• John Galliano will show his cruise collection at Gustavino's tonight. Then he travels to Savannah, Georgia, to receive the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Anyone else have a hard time picturing Galliano in Georgia? [WWD]

• Valentino plans to double sales over the next five years and open 35 more stores. It's part of moving on since Valentino retired and new owners took over. [WWD]

• Sophie Ellis Bextor may star alongside Kate Moss in upcoming Rimmel campaigns. She reportedly signed a three-year multi-million-pound contract. [Catwalk Queen]

• Louis Vuitton made one-hour MP3 audio guides to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Beijing. They'll cost $17 and launch in conjunction with the summer Olympics in Beijing. No word on how they plan to monogram them yet. [WWD]

Sarah Jessica Parker Changes Outfits 81 Times in ‘Sex’ Movie

Deeeeep breaths...Photo: Courtesy of New Line Cinema

• Yes, Sarah Jessica Parker wears 81 different outfits in the Sex and the City movie. Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon have 200 outfit changes on top of that. We're starting to worry this will be too intense for us. [SassyBella]

• Images of Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen's high-end line, the Row, are out. We can't say they make us want to start saving for them. [Nylon]

• Marc Jacobs didn't like showing on Friday this past Fashion Week so he's going back to his old Monday-night slot. Ooooh, is it already time to start anticipating Fashion Week?! [Fashionista]

• Earnest Sewn founder Scott Morrison tells us what he eats in a week. He drives through McDonald's (which he calls the greatest restaurant of all time) and barbecues chipotle burgers at his 178-acre home upstate. Yes, he cooks. [Grub Street]

• Remember what Gwyneth Paltrow used to wear before the mile-high hemlines and high heels? Well, here are a bunch of photos to jog that memory, from her old Brad Pitt days to the pink Oscar dress she cried all over to the crotch-skimming dresses of late. [TeamSugar]

Dove: ‘Real Beauty’ IS Real; Iman: Italian ‘Vogue’ Cover Girl?

Easy, breezy, beautiful…Photo: Getty Images

• We reported yesterday photo retoucher Pascal Dangin told The New Yorker he extensively retouched the photos for Dove's Real Women campaign. In a statement from Unilever, Dangin asserts his quote was taken out of context and he did not work on the 2005 Real Women campaign, but only the Pro-Age campaign in 2007, for which he maintained the women's natural beauty. He says he only removed dust and performed color correction. [Ad Age]

• Rumor is Iman will land the cover of Italian Vogue's all-black issue. So much for all that Jourdan Dunn speculation. [Fashionista]

• In the meantime French Vogue is putting together a Gallic issue for June-July 2008, and two "very French" models have reportedly been booked. One was the "iconic face" of a "venerable designer" for years, and the other "rose to a more mass market kind of stardom." Thinking caps on. [Fashionologie]

• On this side of the Atlantic, Glamour cooked up a list of the 50 most glamorous women for its June issue. It asked cover girl Jessica Simpson to oversee the process, for which judges included Zac Posen, Patrick Demarchelier, and Simon Doonan. Does that mean she was in charge of them? [WWD]

• Soon you can get a $240 cheapie version of the bling Margherita Missoni wore to the Met Costume gala. Because you just haven't been able to stop thinking about it, have you? [WWD]

• Mischa Barton claims a paparazzo is Photoshopping cellulite onto her ass. Her rep said, "I'm not saying she's perfect, nobody is. But they've given a 22-year-old woman the legs and bottom of an 80-year-old." For some reason 500 words are devoted to this "story." [NYDN]

Ralph Rucci Takes Top Prize; Karl Lagerfeld Inspires Himself

A look from the Karl Lagerfeld Fall 08 collection and Karl Lagerfeld. Similar, no?Photo: imaxtree, Getty Images

Ralph Rucci won the fashion prize for the American National Design Awards, beating out Zac Posen and Thom Browne. [British Vogue]

Karl Lagerfeld's muse for his new line of handbags is (drumroll, please) Karl Lagerfeld! Kind of like his fall '08 collection, hm? [British Vogue]

• Scott Schuman, the Sartorialist, has been axed from Gap ads. Maybe they didn't need him since they have hordes of other celebrities, like Liv Tyler, posing in them. [Fashionista]

• Lauren Bush's boyfriend, David Lauren, wasn't invited to Jenna Bush's wedding on Saturday because the family disapproves of him. They thinks he's too old for Lauren and worry she might have to convert to Judaism for him. God forbid the tribe expand. [NYDN]

• Beyoncé and Jay-Z hit up Pop Burger after the Met gala, proving people don't really eat dinner at that thing. The restaurant was closed but obviously they're not going to tell Beyoncé and Jay-Z they can't have burgers, so they bagged some up to go. [NYP]

Helena Christensen on going to a luncheon the day after the Met ball: "It's the worst when you show up and see the other parents when you smell of alcohol." That's why we have shampoo and toothpaste, toots. [WWD]

Hedi Slimane Nixes Diesel; André Leon Talley Gets Anna Cartoon

• Hedi Slimane supposedly has no interest in working for Diesel, refuting reports he met with the company last week and was likely to sign on to design Diesel's new Red Collection. [WWD]

• New York Observer owner Jared Kushner bought the original artwork that appeared on one of the paper's recent covers parodying the April Vogue Shape Issue cover, in which Anna Wintour replaced LeBron James and Si Newhouse replaced Gisele. He outbid at least six people for the illustration, which he's giving to André Leon Talley. Please God, let him hang it in his Vogue office. [WWD]

• Looks like Robert Rodriguez is craving a little more red-carpet exposure. He's launching an eveningwear label featuring gowns with modern details like raw-edged chiffon and fun pockets for cell phones and lipstick. Oooooh. [WWD]

• Kanye West's fashion label, Pallette, is collaborating with Aussie label Ksubi on a range of eyewear. We knew our faces were missing something. [British Vogue]

• Yves Saint Laurent's old muse Loulou de la Falaise will sell her jewelry line on the Home Shopping Network at 8 p.m. this evening. We wonder what Yves say about that. [FabSugar]
