Fashion Report Card: Lam, Doo.Ri, Rodriguez, Roi Savaged by Angry Critics
Posted 02/07/07 in The Cut: Reviews
After rolling over for the big names — Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Diane von Furstenberg all got raves — the critics sharpen their talons on the second tier of designers who haven't quite made it to the major leagues yet. Who exactly did Derek over-reference? Can they take away Doo.Ri's CFDA award? And is Narciso just bored?

Touch of Gray
Posted 02/07/07 in The Cut: Three Is a Trend
There’s nothing ambiguous about one of fall’s biggest breaking trends: gray eye shadow. Doo.Ri complemented intricate updos with striking smoky eyes lined in black with shades of sparkling silver. Alice Roi’s sultry, ashen style dipped the shadow beneath the eyes. Toni Maticevski pushed the trend the furthest, slathering his models’ eyebrows and temples with gray powder. With so many designers opting for pale faces, these shots of gray add a much-needed touch of color, so to speak.

Alice Roi Clogs Up Fashion Week
Posted 02/03/07 in The Cut: New York Fugging City
Spoiler alert for 24 fans: Chloe is going to take up clogging. Okay, not really. (Well, maybe: No one tells us anything. Still, it seems doubtful, unless Kiefer is enslaved by an Appalachian clogging team.) But we decided to start that rumor after the Alice Roi show, at which we were seated near actress Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays 24’s nerd princess. Although she spruces up very nicely in real life a pleasant departure from her sourpuss alter-ego it seems Mary Lynn was inexplicably taken in by Roi’s choice of footwear: giant, shiny, patent-leather black or white clogs, worn with black knee socks.

The Pack Is Back
Posted 09/11/06 in The Cut: Three Is a Trend
Like taking pictures in Times Square, wearing a fanny pack has long been considered tourist territory. But if this week's shows are any indication, these bum bags (that's what they're called in other countries) are once again hip for, well, the hip.
