Brooklyn Vegan has it that on April 5 rocker-muse Andrew W.K. and artist Spencer Sweeney will host a Handsome Furs performance at their long-in-the-works venue, at one point called Santa’s Party House. We’ve heard that owners of bygone East Village dive the Hole will also be involved along with bookers from the Knitting Factory and P.S. 1’s Warm-Up series. But it might not be time to party hardy just yet.

SLA spokesman Bill Crowley tells us that although the authority provisionally approved a liquor-license application in 2006, it ultimately rejected it last Friday (as indicated by documents we’ve obtained), since the place hadn’t yet acquired or submitted a certificate of occupancy, among other things. We’ve heard the venue passed a recent inspection (this somewhat hilarious video depicting its construction is the last time it was photographed, months ago), but Crowley says it’s unlikely a license application can be resubmitted and approved by April. A shame: We can’t wait till the T-shirt slogan “Fuck this, I’m going to Santa’s” is on the lips of every downtown hipster who gets turned away from Beatrice.
