Inside Michael Ruhlman’s Food-snob Kitchen
4/9/08 at 5:00 PM
When Michael Ruhlman relaunched his Website last November in conjunction with the publication of his book The Elements of Cooking, he included a fetching new homepage photo that finds him diligently preparing a mirepoix in his Cleveland kitchen. David Kamp and Marion Rosenfeld, the authors of The Food Snob’s Dictionary, couldn’t help but be dumbstruck: Here, in a single image, was the embodiment of all that they were writing about the properly mise en place– and batterie de cuisine–equipped Food Snob incarnate! Exclusively for Grub Street, Kamp interviewed Ruhlman. Together they deconstruct this exquisite work of Snob portraiture, taken by the writer’s photographer wife, Donna T. Ruhlman.
