When Michael Ruhlman relaunched his Website last November in conjunction with the publication of his book The Elements of Cooking, he included a fetching new homepage photo that finds him diligently preparing a mirepoix in his Cleveland kitchen. David Kamp and Marion Rosenfeld, the authors of The Food Snob’s Dictionary, couldn’t help but be dumbstruck: Here, in a single image, was the embodiment of all that they were writing about — the properly mise en place– and batterie de cuisine–equipped Food Snob incarnate!
