The Community Board 1 meeting in Tribeca last night blessed Frederic Lesort’s plan to open a restaurant-lounge in the upcoming Smyth Tribeca hotel. Lesort (of Opia, Frederick's Bar, Orienta, and the now-closed Lemon) wanted the bar to stay open till 4 a.m., but the CB was steadfast with a 2 a.m. closing time. Jour et Nuit is Lesort’s second venture with that moniker, and he assured the CB that there will be “no night scene” there, “day and night” notwithstanding.
In other development news, the Soho staple Jerry's may have closed, but Jerry Joseph is coming back with a new "Euro-Asian" restaurant that will be located at 90 Chambers Street. Jamie Mulholland of Cain fame had applied for a liquor license for his soon-to-be hot spot at 408 Broadway, but was a no-show at last night's meeting. The CB's director of planning, Michael Levine, said he had received a dozen e-mails that very day objecting to Jamie's new venture. The application will be postponed until next month — till then we're stuck making our bad decisions at GoldBar. —Lauren Niosi
