Michael Citarella Taking Over at Freemans

Freemans has hired a new chef to replace Jean Adamson, and his name is Michael Citarella, former right-hand man to Gray Kunz, over at Café Gray. He’ll be starting on the 23rd. Here’s the announcement, direct from Freemans owner William Tigertt:

I’m pleased to announce that after an extensive search we’ve hired a new chef, Michael Citarella. Michael will be taking over from Jean Adamson starting next Wednesday July 23nd. Jean will be working with Michael for three weeks to transition the kitchen, so there are no hiccups in service. Jean’s last day will be August 8th (Going away party time and location TBD). We wish her the best of luck in her new venture in Brooklyn and thank her for doing such a great job moving Freemans from a little electric kitchen to the 100 seat monster that we know and love today!

Michael has worked in NYC for over 12 years in some amazing kitchens such as Daniel, Tabla, Lespinasse, and last job in NYC was as Executive Sous Chef at Café Gray. He has just recently returned from an overseas gig as Chef at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. We are very excited about his coming on board, and look forward to seeing a new take of classic Freemans cuisine. We will continue with the current summer menu and then transition to Michael’s new fall menu at the end of September/early October. Rest assured that many Freemans classic dishes (artichoke dip, devils on horseback, etc.) will remain, as will the general price point.
