Murdered Restaurant Owner Suffered From Economic Downturn, Mafia Ties

7/31/08 at 1:30 PM

The Post, always the leader in mob-related coverage, tells today of the “execution-style” murder of Frank Fresca, owner of a notoriously Mafia-friendly Staten Island restaurant called Fresca’s on the Bay. The FBI thinks members of the Bonnano crime family did Fresca in, but the cause may have been as simple as a debt, the Post posits in a story called (of course) “Hot Lead Was on the Menu”: “The business was slowing up, and he was backed up on payroll,” manager Jerry Anzalone told the Post. “He may have been borrowing money from the wrong people.” And you thought Bennigan’s had it bad!
