Roxy Might Just Be Down for the Count

8/14/08 at 5:00 PM

Earlier this week, we broke news that the owners of the Roxy suddenly bailed on a community-board meeting where supporters were expected to plead for its reopening. Gay City News hasn’t solved the mystery of the withdrawal (the club’s lawyer says his client gave no reason for it), but it sounds like it may be for good: “The difference between a postponement [which occurred last month] and a withdrawal, the community board noted, is that the withdrawal means the Roxy would likely not return to the table.” Sigh. Meanwhile, we have to wonder, what’s going on with that other iconic Chelsea space, the still-vacant Limelight?
