Very Berry Hopes Name Change Will Freeze Out the Competition

In a strange move, Very Berry, one of the four fro-yo spots on St. Marks Place if you include the soon-to-open Red Mango, has changed its name to Saec. Perhaps the Korean owner was afraid of being confused with Pinkberry or Yoberry — either way, the slightly remodeled store is offering four flavors of fro-yo (plain, green tea, blueberry, and either mango or strawberry depending on the week), along with shaved ice, yogurt smoothies, and what a menu typo refers to as a “banana sprit.” The 24 toppings still include various fruits and berries as wells as nuts, Oreos, granola, mochi, Fruity Pebbles, and what has to be our favorite: the peanut-butter ball. Let's hope this boosts business and Very Berry Saec won’t go the way of TCBY, which just declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy (it’s hard out there for a fro-yo old-timer).
