Community Board

Andrew Carmellini Appeals to CB2

Andrew Carmellini made a personal appeal to Community Board 2 last night about his project in the Tasting Room space, Eater reports. The chef still doesn’t know what kind of food he’ll make (though it’ll be casual), or what the name of his restaurant will be, but does plan for one large communal table encircled by two-tops and four-tops. Carmellini’s petition to transfer the Tasting Room’s liquor license to him was denied over a Certificate of Occupancy roadblock, but we expect the chef to conquer the bureaucracy soon enough. What else happened at the meeting? Answers below.

• Keith McNally expects a winter 2010 opening for his wood-burning pizza restaurant at 282 Bowery. We look forward to the delivery window. The spot will be open till 11 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends.

• Spring Street sports bar Gatsby’s is still loathed by its neighbors, who turned out last night to protest a change from a service bar to a regular bar.

• Spread NYC, an open-face sandwich café that intended to serve beer and wine, was denied. The committee didn’t care for a design plan that incorporated open floor-to-ceiling windows.
