Martignetti Madness: Bella’s, Formerly Known As the Belgrade, Will Now Be Known As Southside
10/2/08 at 12:33 PM
Finally, we’ve got details on the reopening of Bella’s, the hothouse below Bar Martignetti. The name of the venue will be Southside (no relation to the one that used to be in Williamsburg). Anthony Martignetti came up with the concept, says the release, while on a bromantic trip to Costa Rica with his partner in the project, James Willis, a former manager of nearby Ruby’s who worked in the London fashion industry. Martignetti describes the joint as a “private club without the membership policy, a high-class establishment without the pretentiousness, where you know everyone in the room.” Expect chestnut tables lined with brass, banquettes with built-in subwoofers, a central D.J. booth surrounded by tables, a tin ceiling, black mirrors, black subway tiles, and tropical wallpaper. How all of this adds up to “British colonial glam” we’re not sure, but that’s what we're reading. Opens this month.
